Brunch Report

Rip Van Wrinkle Basenji Club

Annual Meeting and Beat the Winter Doldrums Brunch

Chez Apu - Woodstock, New York

February 20, 2011 (meeting was called to order at 11:10am)

Outside, lots of snow

Treasurer’s Report:

The club began 2010 with a little more than $3,800 in the treasury, and ended 2010 with $4,200.

The 2010 raffle earned about $400.

$500 was sent to the Basenji Health Endowment - funds earned from our 2010 raffle, rounded off.

$400 was sent to help with the rescued Wilmauma basenjis in Florida.

The online Wrinkler costs only $20 per year for the website hosting, plus the cost of printing and mailing 10 hard copies of the  Wrinkler for members without Internet access.

The 2010 Match Show cost us $75 for the field. Judge’s gift donated by Marsicano.

On a motion by Culver, seconded by Schulz, attendees voted without dissent to send $500 to Karen Jones, Medfly Basenji Rescue.

Some discussion of the fact that the fiscal year, which begins each January, does not match up with the membership year, which begins in July. No action was taken.

On a motion by Christensen, seconded by Mayer, the treasurer’s report was accepted without dissent.

President’s Report:

78 family memberships, 10 honorary members, 66 Facebook members, and 10 newsletter exchanges.

Proposal for this year’s raffle for the BHE to be drawn at our match show on June 26th. See more details, Page 17.

The items are:

1.  a 1954 hardcover edition, with original, clean, dustcover, of Good-bye My Lady by James Street.
2.  a signed 1978 copy, with notes in the back, of The Basenji Illustrated by Robert W. Cole. Consensus was that these are very appealing raffle prizes.

New T-shirt ideas. Christensen suggested an embroidered T-shirt or a blanket similar to the turtle blankets the Lehigh Valley Coursing Club had made last year. Need company to work with; Culver to give Marsicano name of company she worked with.

Match Show

Sunday, July 26th, at the Polo Field in Scotia (Glenville), New York, to be held in conjunction with the CLASS NOTRA race meet (Oval Racing): after the meet concludes. Approved by acclamation.

Costume class will be “My Favorite Country-western Singer”. Approved by acclamation.

New Business

By acclamation, Frey Johnsson was elected an honorary member of the RVW Basenji Club.

*Tom DeLee, husband of the late Jan DeLee, has asked to step down from the board, and become an honorary member of the club.  Secretary to send a letter of thanks to him, for his service to our club.

On a motion by Schulz, seconded by Christensen, Lotte Hotaling was elected to the board, without dissent.

In honor of their 13th birthday, that day, of Laser and M, the group sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and most of the 11 basenjis present howled along. The video can be seen on YouTube.

There being no further business, Mayer moved, and Schulz seconded, for adjournment at 11:40 a.m.

Minutes submitted by Debby Mayer.

*Letter from Tom DeLee:

Hi Susan,

Brunch sounds like fun. Too bad the logistics of getting there means that I won't be attending.  At this time I would like to resign my position as RVWBC Committee member. You can move my name to the inactive member list (if such a thing exists) too.  Without Jann providing the energy, I'm not as involved as I used to be (or should be).

The brunch may be a good opportunity to appoint a replacement.  I'll check the website from time to time to see what you folks are up to. You can keep my email address in your distribution list.

It sure was interesting!

Take care, Tom
