BELLA the Con Artiste

Bella & Newton Pistorio

Bella does a con game multiple times per day to get Newton to move out of wherever she wants to be, which is generally on my lap or leaning on me.  It used to work REALLY well when he was younger, he thought it was an invitation to play, but he's grown wise to her techniques.  I guess having her immediately take his spot when he got down to play with her a few hundred times finally overcame his chromosomal deficiency.

Nora is very sad that tomato season is coming to an end. She LOVES tomatoes and it was very funny when she discovered that tomatoes grew in a pot ON HER VERY OWN PATIO!!!!  She was relentless: I had to put an x pen around two of the plants to save some fruit for us, but I let her have one of her own. Whenever she needed a snack, she would seriously contemplate her plant and pick the ripest tomato, carry it to her chair on the patio and slowly savor it!!!  TOO funny!!!

I understand being mugged for milk and lap space. I even understand the Trog share of scrambled Cheese Eggs, ice cream cones, and fuzzy blankets. I was not informed that Coconut Cookies were also part of the tithing process. I just had a little man reach up and take the cookie out of my hand while I was taking a bite.

Kunjo and Obike both LOVE sugar cookies.  Their "mom" happens to like sugar cookies just a little bit too.  Harry says the dogs take after me that way. J  I can never enjoy a cookie in the house without a dog begging at my feet.  Never had one stolen from me while I was eating it though!

Kunjo is kind of finicky.  Not sure he would eat a coconut cookie.  Does Trog prefer them store bought or home-made?

I cut back a 30 foot tall Loquat tree and to help get the job done I used my African wood chipper.

This morning my friend came over, together with her 18 year old daughter Mariska. Now Mariska was very sad, because her pet rabbit died a couple of days ago. They were telling me about this and Mariska was crying.

Now Ch'ami was looking from a distance to Mariska, then to me. I told him gently: "Ch'ami, go to Mariska and comfort her, she is sad".  And he did. He stood very close to her, his front feet on her lap; his head bend forward to Mariska's.  She immediately put her arms around him. Ch'ami com-forted her and licked her tears away.

What a special breed Basenji's are, don't you think?

My girlies did toilet paper this morning while I was at the vet for Trill's anal sac rupture check-up. There were detours on the road + construction. I had left them loose thinking I'd be home soon, not. I was relieved they found TP to keep them occupied.

I put my small boxes for recycling on a kitchen chair before I take them out.  The dogs "steal" them and tear them to little shreds.  When I discover it I say in a surprised voice "Oh my, who has done this?  What has happened here? Oh No, this is awful," and they keep doing it week after week. J It's a silly game we play.

There's a dog park a couple miles from here (didn't have one in upstate NY) and I take a couple of the crew over couple times a week. First time I took two of the Cardigan Corgis, Trigger and Dewars.  They did have a grand ol' time, running and looking around, but not the high speed stretched out total gallop I was hoping for. Took Pete (she's a girl) over a couple times and she was so involved in all the glorious scents she never got beyond 10 foot of the entrance.

Last week I took all three, hoped they'd be polite and play nicely. Well, Ms Basenji took a look at them and took off!! They went after her, running full tilt!! I was surprised that they were at most 2 feet behind her, and on corners caught up. Maybe she doesn't think they're worth a stretch run. All three were leashed up after 10 minutes of catch the Basenji, and went in crates in the car and slept. I’m looking forward to going again.

Fawn loved horses.  She always got rompy happy when we would go to the mountains and see (me see, her smell) the horses.
