2. An original quilt by the totally gifted Lisa Stewart. (photo shows the quilt in process)
3. Two boxes of basenji shaped cookies - one for people, and one for the doggies, made for us by chef Michael J. Primeau.
4. Two handmade beaded tick collars by Uschi Grewe.
Uschi says, "It is rough amber which does the trick. It sends out little electrical signals over the fur which the ticks don't like and also the smell from the amber goes in the fur. Will see if I can find the description from it. And I combine it with semi-precious stones. We have a lot of ticks here and it helps for my dogs. Sure, not 100% but they have had a LOT LESS ticks last year."
Due to its chemical composition, amber has a very high electrical resistance. The electric charge discharges through the friction of the chain on the fur of your dog. The resistance is so fine that the dog does not feel it and you do not. Fleas, ticks and mites feel this low resistance. You get an electric shock that makes them drop from the dog or cat. So, if you keep your dog permanently chained, you'll get protection against ticks for your dog. Almost like an electric fence around a pasture, the cows do not feel.
In addition, the amber contains an essential oil. Its fragrance spreads on the skin of your dog and repels ticks. The tick can perceive the oil through the so-called Haller's organ.

Malley Heinlein has written a piece for Clean Run on Shibas in agility.
Check for it in their March issue. We will be able to publish it in 3 months.
